Read it out loud tonight

The forest was quiet. Even the wind was tucking itself in.

Maya the giraffe bent her long neck low. 'Tonight,' she whispered, 'we walk slowly. Slower than slow.'

Reddy the bear yawned. Syssy the mermaid hopped onto Maya's back so she could see far, far up.

They walked past the moss, past the sleepy mushrooms, past the little stream that hummed in its sleep.

'Look,' said Maya softly. The first star of the night blinked above the tallest tree.

'It waited for us,' Syssy whispered. And the forest, very gently, closed its eyes.
